1877-S Trade Dollar, SEGS MS-63.  A very historic coin!  In 1873, the US Mint changed the weight of the silver dollar from 412.5 grains to 420 grains to compete with dollar-sized coins of other countries.  The majority of the Trade Dollars were traded with the Orient.  Each coin was then counter-stamped by a Chinese official noting that these new dollars were indeed genuine and of proper weight -- hence the "chop mark" on many of the surviving coins.  Although coins with a chop mark are valued lower than normal pieces, they are a true bit of history.   Most chop marks were randomly placed onto the coin, usually in the middle, thus taking away from the coin's eye appeal, and in some cases, defacing the coin.  This chop mark is clear, and is placed on the field in the 3-o'clock position and does not mar the obverse devices.  This coin is a very clean, white MS-63 (the chop mark keeps it from a 65 or 66 grade) with subdued luster -- a  very nice and interesting type coin.  For sale at well below dealer wholesale of $2000.  An MS-64 coin is $4000, MS-65 $10K.  Priced right.  $1250.00
